Welcome to the Department of NSS

About the Department:

NSS unit in the college was established in the academic year, 1978. Since its inception, it is very active up till now. Currently there are TWO and HALF units sanctioned by the Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune. The 250 volunteer’s strength is sanctioned by the University for Regular Activities and 125 volunteers strength is sanctioned for special camp. Three Assistant Professors are working as Programme Officers at present. Most of them sincerely looked after regular and special camping activities. NSS volunteers developed trend among themselves such as, social obligations, importance of religious harmony and national integration, regional and linguistic harmony etc.

Numbers of volunteers were selected by Savitribai Phule Pune University for various  District,  State  and  Special  Camps.  All  volunteers  have  contributed  in “Swachha va Swastha Bharat Abhiyan”, conservation of environment, conservation of water, national integration, anti-tobacco campaign, anti AIDS campaign, blood donation camps, road safety campaign, save girl campaign, Tree Plantation etc.

Scope and Importance:

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is an Indian government sponsored public service programme conducted by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India. Popularly known as NSS, the scheme was formally launched on 24th September, 1969, the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation. Aimed at developing student’s personality through community service, NSS is  a  voluntary association of  young peoples  in Colleges  and  Universities  level working for a campus-community linkage.

Aim:

Personality Development of students through community service.

Objectives:

  • Understand the community in which they work.
  • Understand themselves in relation to their community.
  • Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem solving process.
  • Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility.
  • Utilize their knowledge in finding practical solution to individual and community problems.
  • Develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities.
  • Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude.
  • Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disaster and Practise national integration and social harmony.

NSS Motto:

The  motto  of  NSS  is ‘Not  Me  But  You’.  This  reflects  the  essence  of democratic living and upholds the need for selfless service and appreciation of the other person’s point of view and also to show consideration for fellow human beings.

The cardinal principle of the NSS programme is that it is organized by the students  themselves,  and  both  students  and  teachers  through  their  combined participation in community service, get a sense of involvement in the tasks of nation building.

The programme aims to inculcate social welfare in students, and to provide service to society without bias. NSS volunteers work to ensure that everyone who is needy gets help to enhance their standard of living and lead a life of dignity. In doing so, volunteers learn from people in villages how to lead a good life despite a scarcity of resources. it also provides help in natural and man-made disasters by providing food, clothing and first aid to the disaster victims.

NSS At Glance

  1. Celebration of International Yoga Day:

3rd International Yoga Day was celebrated on 21st June 2017 in the college campus. In which NSS volunteers, faculty participated enthusiastically, practiced various ‘asanas’ of Yoga and pranayama under the guidance of a trained yoga practitioner Mr. Shrirang Nalkul.

 

  1. Swaccha Va Swasth Bharat Abhiyan:

The cleanliness oath ceremony was conducted in the college. The college Principal Dr. Sambhaji Pathare given oath to the staff members, college students and the NSS volunteers. There were 74 boys and 56 girls volunteers participated in the abhiyan.

  1. NSS Day Celebration:

NSS was formally launched on 24th September, 1969, the birth centenary year of the Father of the Nation. Therefore, 24 September is celebrated every year as NSS Day .All NSS volunteers of Rahuri college celebrated NSS day by performing poster presentation to create awareness on the topics like status of women in India, save girl child, conservation of environment etc. The videos on different social issues were screened on this day.

 

  1. Blood donation camps:

The college NSS unit organized blood donation camps every year  in association with Rotary club Rahuri blood bank in the month of December.

  1. HIV/AIDS awareness program:
    AIDS awareness program in the campus, adopted village and slum area were organized by the unit every year with the association of Gramin Hospital Rahuri. This event was conducted to create awareness about HIV/AIDS its causes as well as to make people know as to how it can be prevented.

 

  1. Disaster Management:

NSS Unit every year organized a Disaster Management Workshop of one day. In 2017-2018 NDRF team visited our campus and they had given training to the 55 NSS volunteers to face the natural and man-made disasters.

 

  1. Tree Plantation:

Every year NSS volunteers plants more than 100 trees. In 2017-2018 NSS unit developed “NSS Corner” in the college campus by the suggestion of College Principal Dr. Sambhaji Pathare.

 

  1. Haemoglobin Free Check-up Camp:

Rahuri college NSS Unit every year taken haemoglobin Free Check-up Camp at adopted village in association with Vivekanand Nursing Home, Rahuri Factory. In 2017-2018 , 127 village women did haemoglobin test and it was found that 75% village women’s haemoglobin level in their body is below average.

 

  1. Ambulance 108 awareness at Adopted Village Tambhere

 

 

  1. CCT Construction:

In 2017-2018 NSS volunteers dig 500 ft long and 3ft wide CCT on the hill near the adopted village Tambhere during Special Camp.

 

  1. Road Safety Program:

NSS Volunteers of College conducted various Road safety programs such as Poster Competition, sending SMS, rally and Seminar on road safety to aware citizens of India regarding various safety measures should be adopted while driving the vehicles on the road.

  1. Voting Awareness programme:
    NSS unit of College had organized Voting Awareness programme to aware the students of college and to impart the knowledge about importance of voting. On 25th January we observed the National Voters Day. On this occasion we organized different activity related electoral awareness.
  2. Seven Days Residential Special Camp at Adopted Village:

NSS Unit of College organised Seven Days Residential Camp every year in the adopted Village. In 2017-2018 NSS unit had organised camp at Tambhere village.The Theme of the Camp was “Swacch Bharat Abhiyan”. NSS Volunteers conducted various activities such as skit and debate on the topics “Swacch Bharat Abhiyan”, Save Girl Child, AIDS Awareness etc. Talks were organised for the Volunteers on different topics such as Consumer Awareness, Anti-superstition and moral values, Social networking- Boon or Bane and NSS objectives. The purpose of the camp was to inculcate various values such as social, cultural, moral, educational and ethical.
