About Chemistry Department

The Chemistry department of Loknete Ramdas Patil Dhumal Arts, Science & Commerce College was established in 1982. This is one of the largest Science Department of the College. The Department of Chemistry has grown considerably over the course of 44 years. The Department offers the courses of B. Sc. in Chemistry at the UG Level. A non-grant course in M. Sc. Organic Chemistry started in 2012 with capacity of 24 students. The department has a well-furnished research center to conduct research with guide teachers for Ph. D. degree. There are experienced and well-qualified faculty members for UG and PG classes. The Department has a recognized Research Centre for Chemistry. The Department has successfully organized 02 National conferences, 01 State level and a number of sate and university level workshops for students. The Department has received grants of 40 lakhs from DST-FIST New Delhi. The department has well-equipped and well-furnished spacious laboratories with various sophisticated research instruments and equipment like UV visible spectrophotometer, FTIR, AAS, Flame Photometer, TGA etc. More than 40 research papers have been published in reputed national and international journals. Many of our students successfully clear competitive examinations like SET, NET, IIT Entrance, GATE, and CSIR examinations. To date numbers of students are placed in various sectors such as pharmaceutical, chemical and teaching in the country and abroad.

Departmental Activities

  1. Celebration of National Science Day.

    The Department of Physics celebrated National Science Day to commemorate the discovery of the Raman Effect and to promote scientific awareness among students. Various academic activities were organized to encourage scientific thinking, innovation, and research aptitude.

  2. National Science Day Theme: "Women in Science: Catalysing Viksit Bharat"

    A special programme was organized based on the National Science Day theme "Women in Science: Catalysing Viksit Bharat" to recognize the contributions of women scientists and inspire students towards scientific research. The activity emphasized gender equality and the role of science in nation-building.

  3. Motivational Speech on Career Guidance

    A motivational career guidance session was conducted to familiarize students with higher education opportunities and career prospects in.

  4. Outreach Chemistry and allied sciences. The programme motivated students to prepare for competitive examinations, research, and emerging technological fields Activity – Resonance: Creating Synergy

    The department organized an outreach programme titled "Resonance: Creating Synergy" to promote scientific curiosity and strengthen interaction between school and college students. The activity encouraged knowledge sharing, collaborative learning, and interest in Chemistry among young learners.

  5. Science Exhibition – Outreach Activity for Students

    A Science Exhibition was organized to provide students with a platform to demonstrate innovative scientific models and experiments. The exhibition promoted experiential learning, creativity, teamwork, and scientific temper among participants and visitors.

  6. National Science Day Celebration

    The department observed National Science Day with expert lectures, quizzes, demonstrations, and student competitions. The programme inspired students to appreciate the importance of scientific research and innovation for societal development.

  7. Special Classes for IIT-JAM Preparation

    The Department regularly conducts Special Classes for IIT-JAM Preparation to strengthen students conceptual understanding of Physics and problem-solving skills. These sessions help aspiring students prepare for national-level competitive examinations and higher education in premier institutions.

    • For the overall development of students and staff department regularly arranges seminars, conferences and workshops.
    • A multidisciplinary international level conference “Recent Advances in Humanities, Commerce and Science” on 10th February 2022.
    • Two National level seminars- “Environmental Awareness- A need of 21st century” on 2nd to 4th February 2012 and “Green Technology for Sustainable Development (GTSD-2020)” on 14th-15th February 2020.
