Loknete Ramdas Patil Dhumal Arts, Science & Commerce College

Founded in 1982, the Department of Mathematics is dedicated to academic excellence, innovative pedagogy, and the holistic growth of its students. The department expanded its undergraduate reach in the 2012–2013 academic year by introducing the T.Y. B.Sc. Mathematics program. Currently led by Dr. P. S. Gholap, the department features a highly qualified, accessible faculty team focused on nurturing deep conceptual understanding and sharp analytical skills.

• Modern Pedagogy: Standard coursework is elevated through student-centric teaching, continuous assessment, and hands-on training in ICT-enabled and open-source tools—including Python, LaTeX, Maxima, and Geo Gebra.
• Infrastructure: Students benefit from a specialized departmental library and a fully equipped computer laboratory.
• Specialized Training: The department hosts a unique, multi-disciplinary Certificate Course in Vedic Mathematics, officially approved by Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), to boost computational speed and innovative problem-solving

Annual Activities & Student Development

To spark creativity and expose students to advanced mathematical concepts, the department actively drives engagement through dynamic annual events:

• Competitive Platforms & Research: Faculty actively mentor students to participate in prestigious state- and national-level initiatives, such as the Mathematics Training and Talent Search (MTTS) program, the Madhava Mathematics Competition, IIT workshops, and the Avishkar Research Competition.
• Commemorative Celebrations:
  • National Mathematics Day: Honors Srinivasa Ramanujan through the internal Ramanujan Mathematics Competition and a student-led Mathematics Exhibition.
  • International Pi Day (March 14^th): Features interactive quizzes, guest lectures, and academic challenges tailored for F.Y., S.Y., and T.Y.B.Sc. students to showcase real-world mathematical applications.
• Experiential Learning: The curriculum is supplemented with regular expert guest lectures, workshops, and mandatory annual educational visits designed specifically to give S.Y.B.Sc. and T.Y.B.Sc. students practical academic exposure outside the classroom.
