The Department of Physics at Shri Shivaji Shikshan Prasarak Mandal's Arts, Science and Commerce College, Rahuri was established in 1982 with the objective of providing quality science education to the rural and tribal students of the region. Affiliated with Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune, the department offers the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) programme and is committed to fostering scientific temper, critical thinking, and academic excellence.
The department is supported by Four experienced and dedicated faculty members and is equipped with two well-established undergraduate laboratories that provide students with hands-on training using modern scientific instruments. Teaching is enriched through ICT-enabled classrooms, laboratory experiments, seminars, assignments, projects, and continuous internal assessment to ensure effective learning.
To promote experiential learning and skill development, the department encourages students to participate in science exhibitions, workshops, guest lectures, industrial visits, internships, and research-oriented activities. Students are also motivated to attend Summer Camp and Internship Programmes organized by the Department of Physics, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), Pune, enabling them to gain research exposure and interact with leading academicians and scientists.
The department's active student association, "Resonance," serves as a platform for organizing seminars, workshops, quiz competitions, educational visits, outreach programmes, and celebrations of scientific events such as National Science Day. These activities foster leadership, teamwork, communication skills, scientific awareness, and overall personality development.

Departmental Activities
- Celebration of National Science Day.
The Department of Physics celebrated National Science Day to commemorate the discovery of the Raman Effect and to promote scientific awareness among students. Various academic activities were organized to encourage scientific thinking, innovation, and research aptitude.
- National Science Day Theme: "Women in Science: Catalysing Viksit Bharat"
A special programme was organized based on the National Science Day theme "Women in Science: Catalysing Viksit Bharat" to recognize the contributions of women scientists and inspire students towards scientific research. The activity emphasized gender equality and the role of science in nation-building.
- Poster Presentation Competition (National Energy Conservation Week – December 2025)
A Poster Presentation Competition was organized during National Energy Conservation Week to create awareness about energy conservation, renewable energy resources, and sustainable development. Students creatively presented scientific ideas and practical solutions for efficient energy utilization.
- Motivational Speech on Career Guidance
A motivational career guidance session was conducted to familiarize students with higher education opportunities and career prospects in Physics and allied sciences. The programme motivated students to prepare for competitive examinations, research, and emerging technological fields.
- Poster Presentation Competition on National Space Day
Theme: "Aryabhatta to Gaganyaan": The Role of Laser Technology
To celebrate National Space Day, a poster presentation competition was organized on the theme "Aryabhatta to Gaganyaan": The Role of Laser Technology." The activity enhanced students' understanding of India's space missions, laser applications, and recent advancements in space science and technology.
- Outreach Activity – Resonance: Creating Synergy
The department organized an outreach programme titled "Resonance: Creating Synergy" to promote scientific curiosity and strengthen interaction between school and college students. The activity encouraged knowledge sharing, collaborative learning, and interest in Physics among young learners.
- Science Exhibition – Outreach Activity for Students
A Science Exhibition was organized to provide students with a platform to demonstrate innovative scientific models and experiments. The exhibition promoted experiential learning, creativity, teamwork, and scientific temper among participants and visitors.
- Workshop on LED Bulb Manufacturing
A hands-on workshop on LED Bulb Manufacturing was conducted to provide practical exposure to students on the design, assembly, testing, and working principles of LED bulbs. - Special Classes for IIT-JAM Preparation
The Department regularly conducts Special Classes for IIT-JAM Preparation to strengthen students' conceptual understanding of Physics and problem-solving skills. These sessions help aspiring students prepare for national-level competitive examinations and higher education in premier institutions.
